My name is Archie Cairns and for the past twenty - seven years or so I have been researching the Cairns family surname in Scotland. In an effort to find some missing relatives my research has lead me to set up a "One Name Study of the Cairns Family Surname" Although my own family research is confined to the Lothians of Scotland and in particular to the Parishes of Tranent, Inveresk in Musselburgh, Duddingston in Portobello, Peebles, Loanhead and Leith also Kirkcaldy and Cardenden ~ Auchenderran in Fife where members of my family are known to have settled. I do have a general interest in the origins and movement's of those families with the Cairns Surname and name variants. I have quite a large database covering the UK and Ireland and have most of the Cairns and name variants from about 1875 back to quite early times. As a direct result of the growing number of email enquiries I am now receiving I decided it was time to set up this website in an effort to divert those enquiries who have no known links with the UK & Ireland to other resources and to concentrate my time to helping those with known links to the UK & Ireland and especially those with Scottish Root's. I do hope you enjoy your visit to my website and as we say here in Scotland...
~Haste ye back ~ To quote my friend Walter Hampson...
"Genealogy as I have discovered is not about finding a link to Royalty, but to set forth on a journey of discovery, to learn about my personal history, how my forbearers lived, and perhaps to discover why they moved from their home of origin."
